Microsoft’s first Canadian retail store to open at Yorkdale

Microsoft opened up its first retail store outside of the U.S this Friday in Yorkdale mall. It looks much like the Apple store with its clean, spare design. This store will not only be selling its own products but also computers that run on Windows, including Samsung, Sony, Acer, Asus, Lenovo and Dell. The Apple store in Yorkdale mall will definitely face competition with the new Microsoft store because they will only be two door down from each other.
This relates to international business in a huge way because the new Microsoft store is the first international location outside of the U.S. Even though we can find Microsoft products in stores such as Walmart, Zellers, The Source, Future Shop, Best buy, etc. All of Microsoft's products are not always at these locations. Much like Apple and how it's products are also not all sold at these stores. It makes a huge amount of its profits from it's own stores because it supports all of its products and it has a larger supply of them. Microsoft will also make a huge profit from opening its own store internationally because customers know exactly what they will expect to find. Also this store is supporting other products that are not Microsoft like Acer, Windows 8, Sony etc. This will attract customers even if they are not looking for Microsoft products.
I will definitely be checking out the new Microsoft store the next time I go to Yorkdale mall.
I had a great time reading your post. I never knew that they also sell acer, hp and dell products at the store though. Maybe we should film some more Gangnam style clips at the store :P.
ReplyDeleteGot to check this store out, as soon as possible.
ReplyDeleteWoah I had no clue that they had opened a microsoft store in yorkdale. I shall go check it out. There is going to be major competition between the Apple store and the Microsoft store.
ReplyDeleteIf Microsoft and Apple compete, I think that Microsoft will win because Microsoft has more better products even products that are not from Microsoft. They have Windows 8, Acer, and Sony.
ReplyDeleteI think opening a retail location in Canada and ESP. York dale Mall is an amazing marketing strategy by Microsoft. York Dale is known for their brand named apparel and other high class goods. By opening up a retail location in York Dale, they will be able to reach out to more customers, esp. the high class society, which could improve sales. It would also improve customer satisfaction because they will be able to find all the Microsoft products in one place instead of hunting for it in other stores or even ordering it online.
ReplyDeleteThis is the next step for Microsoft! They're finally stepping it up a notch and actually TRYING to compete with Apple from the way I see it. I completely agree with what Andy said about Apple selling most of it's products through their Apple store rather than through other stores like Future Shop, The Source or Best Buy. Personally when I go to buy an Apple product I usually go to the Apple Store rather than Future Shop or any other store. This makes Apple less dependent on other stores to sell their products. Similarly, Microsoft is starting to do this as well. Hopefully this will increase Microsoft sales. I'll definitely be going to Yorkdale soon to check out this store.
ReplyDeleteOpening a Microsoft Store in Canada is a good idea, I'm tired of seeing Apple hopefully Microsoft would open up more stores in different malls! I have been a fan of Microsoft and will always be there to support their company, Apple is just meh in my opinion. Next time I go to Yorkdale mall, the Microsoft store will definitely be the store that I go to first !
ReplyDeleteVERY interesting...Was at Yorkdale not too long ago but didn't notice the "coming soon" sign that was likely there.
ReplyDeleteApple has had a lot of success with their retail locations. Such moves should lead us to believe that Microsoft will look to continue increasing the amount of Microsoft-branded products it offers directly to consumers (eg. not just software used in other brands)
I'm sure many of us will check this out next time at Yorkdale...great news!
This post really grabbed my attention. The fact that Microsoft is opening a store in Yorkdale mall really has me intrigued. Competition between Apple and Microsoft will be very interesting now that their respective stores are within the same mall. However, with the more popularity of Apple throughout various malls around the world, it will be interesting to see how Microsoft will be able to compete with what Apple in Yorkdale mall. Although I'm more on Team Apple, Boxing day is coming around and with the changes the mall has gone through (as far as I know) including the Mircosoft store, I be sure to drop by and check it out.
ReplyDeleteOut of all the posts I've read so far, this one REALLY caught me by surprise!
I agree and I'm glad it did. :)
