Are the world's tallest plants heading for extinction?

Amazon Rainforest

If you don't know what the world's tallest plants are, they are trees. Yes tree's or more specifically big, old ones are disappearing everywhere around the world. The cause of this is fires, droughts, logging and disease.  Logging companies are one of the main causes because they target the biggest and oldest trees. Ones again the meddling of humans with the environment is destroying a species. Actually several species because many birds, reptiles, mammals and marsupials make their homes in trees. Some of these tree's even produce seeds that replenish the forest and can be used as food. Many forests around the world can't even grow large, strong tree's anymore because of human interference, shifting climate and aggressive species. Examples of aggressive species would be Asian Tiger Mosquito's, Burmese pythons and Cane toads. Also in areas of the world old trees are vulnerable to being toppled by wind and parasites due to forests being reduced to fragments. The main message of this article is to let it's readers know that trees are disappearing faster than they are reappearing.

This article relates to international business because the declining of tree's will definitely effect the logging companies around the world due to the reduction of trade they will face. This article also gives reason for logging companies to cut down tree's in a more sustainable way, which will reduce production if they decide to.

  1. I think the logging companies need to be more reasonable. Everyone needs to do their part to conserve our environment and all the living things. I remember going to Stanley Park in Vancouver and honestly it was beautiful. Now after all these forest fires it has changed drastically, it doesn’t look like it used to. Business should be more considerate towards the environment even if that means spending some extra bucks to be more cautious.

  2. I agree with Hima. They say business is business, but we also have to take many things into consideration. What good is business and earning money if we don't have a planet to live on 30 years down the road cause we cut off our major source of air, trees. If anything, I think they should make a universal law enforcing logging companies to only be allowed to cut down a certain amount of trees per month of year. Personally, I think this would give trees time to regrow and help set a cycle where the earth and businesses are both happy and healthy.

  3. Like Tasha said, there should be some restrictions placed on the logging companies such as planting a new tree in place of every tree cut? or, only cutting specific trees which have been OK'ed by the forest department or something. In a country like Canada there are a lot of laws and regulations which protect the forest and its ground but in other countries elsewhere around the world, even the governments have failed to stand their ground and have joined with these crooks to put a few extra money in their pockets :/

  4. Haha...funny first sentence Amrit. I believe (though not 100%) there is a rule in Canada whereby for every tree cut down, businesses must plant a new one. You will often see this is the case with say new home developers whom plant clusters of trees in spaces adjacent or not far from their housing projects. As Amrit touched on in his post, the removal of trees disrupts the nautral living environment for many animals, wildlife and such.

  5. But sir in other countries they may not have the same laws that we have. They may think that there are a large abundance of supply of trees for them to be able to continually cut down trees. Also, aren't they not allowed to cut trees that are old that have history? In all honesty trees are good and the other countries on Earth should have a replanting law as we do.

  6. I swear eventually we won't have any trees at all =.= At the rate companies are cutting them down, there is no way for trees to naturally sustain themselves. They should really think about the future and not just "in the moment money". What is the point of money for the future if there isn't one at all...
